Medicare
Medicare beneficiaries now also have more choices to make. Since the introduction of prescription drug coverage in 2006, there is much confusion as to which way to go. You can elect to remain in the Original Medicare program. With this choice, you can then choose one of the government-standardized Medicare Supplement Plans and a stand-alone Part D drug plan (PDP). Another option is to choose a Medicare Advantage Plan with the drug plan built in (MAPD). These plans include the medical benefits of Original Medicare and the prescription drug benefits of a PDP, all combined in one plan. Medicare Advantage Plans are also available to Medicare beneficiaries who are not 65 years of age and are on Medicare because of a disability. In the past, these beneficiaries have been left out of the supplemental insurance market. The choices now can be overwhelming and each case is different. In some cases what is right for this year may not be the best option for the next year, especially if there has been a change in health or medication. I will work through the options and help you make the right choice.
The health insurance industry is ever-changing and I feel a tremendous responsibility to stay educated and keep you informed of these changes as they occur. I will meet with you periodically to make sure that your plan continues to meet your original goal.

I currently serve on the board of directors of NAIFA Chattanooga and am the president-elect for the 2008-2009 term. I am also actively involved as chairman and moderator for the LUTC program of insurance courses offered by The American College.

Individual and Family Health Insurance
Individual and Family plans include traditional PPO’s with a large selection of deductibles, co-pays and network providers. Health Savings Accounts (HSA’s) offer you a high deductible health plan with a tax-favored savings account from which to pay for qualified medical expenses. You may need short-term medical coverage if you are waiting for employer group coverage to begin, recently graduated from college, or between jobs. These plans can be purchased for up to 12 months. Long-term care insurance offers protection from the high costs associated with an accident or extended illness. Child-only plans are also available.
